I’m very excited to announce the Sunday Bleeker has started in the Montreal Gazette! Getting a big paper is always fantastic news and in this market, truly worth whooping it up for! Believe it or not this is the first time I’ve seen my comic in color and in a newspaper’s comic section. (since I don’t live anywhere near Montreal, it was my sister-in-law who finally tracked down a copy….big thanks to her!)
Remember, if you want Bleeker in your local paper please contact the editor and ask them to add it. Those letters really help get the word out. Also, if it does appear in your paper send me a photo and I’ll post it up here….always good fun to see!

i’m glad that big city papers are carrying the strip. here in central california it’s been in the monterey county herald for some time. first time in a big paper? odd…i could’ve sworn i’d seen Bleeker in the Los Angeles Times…
anyway, congratulations on the new addition.
hope it gets into more papers soon!
Thanks! Yes the Monterey paper was one of the very first to pick up Bleeker.
Actually, I didn’t say The Gazette was the first big paper to buy Bleeker but the first time I had seen the comic in a big paper. My local paper carries Bleeker but they don’t have a comics page. There’s something really great about seeing it in print, stacked up next to all the other strips out there.
I haven’t heard about the LA Times but that would be fantastic if that’s true….must check into that!
Thanks again!
That is very good news, well reported.
Just astonished that more papers don’t carry Bleeker – yet.
Thanks LB! It’s a tough slog out there for real estate on the comics page but hopefully spaces will open up.
My guess on why more papers don’t carry Bleeker is that it has too much of a kid appeal. It reads like a Saturday morning cartoon. That isn’t a bad thing by itself but in newspapers, where the average reader is 56, the audience might not relate to it. Maybe Mr. Mahood should feature Grammy K more?
Any new comic strip is facing a tremendous uphill battle regardless in terms of getting and keeping clients.
Wow! The first time seeing it in color in a newspaper! That has to be a comic strip artist’s dream come true!
Yeah, seeing it on the comics page is a real thrill. It’s appeared in papers for awhile just none around me that have a comics section…looks so much better on a page with other strips than by itself.
Of course either is fine!
Never thought of that, seeing it on the page with other strips! So true. Neat observation.
Hey Jon,
Great news!
Now, if we could only get it in the Toronto Star.
DHC
Thanks! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for that one too!
Congrats. My local paper doesn’t add new comics anymore. Whenever they cancel one (which is rare) they shrink the newspaper even more or use it for ad space instead of replacing it!
Thanks Xane! Yeah, that’s the sad reality these days(…but comics make people want to buy papers!)
