I’ve been digging through my old comics and came across this series that I did for a local newspaper back in the late ’90′s. It was about a small town called Backwash and its crazy inhabitants. The Backwashians were drawn as various animals like ducks, beavers, toads and birds.
When I first started, I wrote way too much (everybody does this at the beginning) as can be seen by this comic….retiree Ernie Duckles trying to enjoy a nice Spring day…
…and here’s another Ernie Duckles strip from a while later with much less writing in it…although still kinda wordy…
I did this comic for about 2 1/2 years and it was a lot of fun. I tried to sell it as a daily newspaper comic but it had a big cast of characters and too much detail to squish down to 3 panels. This was before the web (or at least before I was online) so after the paper it was in folded, so did the comic. I can post more if you guys like them…let me know.

Today’s pics are from around my shop. My 1930′s era bandsaw rescued from a tractor shed, magnetic tripping hazard sign pulled out of a garbage pail, glass insulators found along the railroad track, one of my many “started but never finished” carvings and my TUBBY sign pulled out of a landfill.
…Sanford and Son was one of my favorite shows growing up…
